Peak shaving delivers its full value when the battery system is engineered around the site’s actual load profile: how high the peaks are, how long they last, how often they occur and what supplies the energy in between. As a manufacturer of the HBD-A Series and its own EMS, MPMC sizes power, capacity and control logic together, so commercial and industrial users get a system that targets their specific demand charges and operating costs.
From Load Data to System Design
Matching Power and Duration to the Peaks
Two numbers drive the design: the kW the battery must remove from the peak and the hours it must sustain that output. The HBD-A range offers different power-to-energy ratios for different peak shapes. The HBD-125-260, HBD-210-410, HBD-500-1000 and HBD-1000-2000 provide roughly two hours at rated power, ideal for sharp afternoon or shift-start peaks, while the HBD-250-1000 provides around four hours from 1,045 kWh, suited to longer plateaus and evening solar shifting.
Control Modes for Every Site
MPMC’s EMS charges the battery during off-peak hours and discharges during peak demand to cap the maximum kW billed by the utility. PQ mode controls active and reactive power for grid-connected operation, VF mode supports independent voltage and frequency control, and VSG mode adds grid stability. Black start and grid-forming capability let the same system support sites with on-site generation or off-grid sections.
The EMS also coordinates with rooftop PV, storing surplus midday generation for the evening peak, and with on-site generator sets, holding them at efficient load points while the battery covers sudden demand. External PV inverter and ATS integration are supported on every HBD-A model.

Peak Shaving Proven in Demanding Conditions
Dubai Concrete Batching Plants: 10 Stations, 10 MWh
At ten off-grid concrete batching stations in Dubai, each HBD-500-1000 works with three 500 kVA Perkins-powered generator sets to serve a load that peaks at 847.8 kW, averages 409 kW and includes motor starts of 185 kW, around the clock at 45-50°C. MPMC’s three-phase EMS logic lets the battery discharge while one genset runs at its optimal 75% load, brings parallel gensets in to recharge the battery at up to 500 kW, and keeps every source in mutual redundancy.

Grid-Connected Peak Shaving in Europe
In the Netherlands, a 3.2 MWh grid-connected peak-shaving system built from 125 kW/260 kWh and 100 kW/200 kWh units serves C&I demand, while an 8 MWh system in Hungary combines two HBD-500-1000 and three HBD-1000-2000 units for frequency regulation, peak shaving and load balancing at a green power plant.
Built for Daily Cycling
Peak shaving means a full cycle almost every working day, and the HBD-A is built for it: LFP 314Ah cells rated for 8,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge, liquid cooling on every model, IP67 battery packs, CE-certified aerosol fire protection and C4 anti-corrosion coating. Systems carry a 5-year product warranty and a 10-year battery performance warranty with at least 70% capacity retention, and MPMC’s SCADA reports demand reduction and system status in automated monthly and annual reports.
Every system is assembled on MPMC Energy Tech’s automated battery pack and BESS lines in Yangzhong and commissioned with support from MPMC engineers, with remote diagnostics through the SCADA/EMS cloud platform throughout its service life.
